What is a credit score?
Credit score: A credit score is a three-digit number that summarizes your credit report. Lenders use it as one factor when deciding whether to lend and on what terms.
Common scoring models, such as FICO and VantageScore, weigh payment history, amounts owed, length of credit history, new credit and the mix of accounts you have.
You have more than one credit score, because scores differ by scoring model and by which credit bureau's report is used.
When you compare offers
Your score is one factor among several. Lenders also look at income, existing debt and other information, and each sets its own criteria.
