What is comprehensive coverage?
Comprehensive coverage: Comprehensive coverage pays for damage to your own car from events other than a collision, such as theft, fire, hail, flooding or hitting an animal.
Comprehensive coverage is optional in most states, but lenders and leasing companies often require it while you are paying off or leasing a vehicle. It usually comes with a deductible.
It does not cover damage from a collision with another vehicle or object, which collision coverage handles.
When you compare offers
Compare quotes with the same comprehensive deductible, and weigh the coverage against your car's value.
